The one and only oumayma
Oumayma is just pure gold, words cannot accurately transcribe her whole entire life journey that she spent being an amazing wife, mother, grandmother , teacher and knitter . In fact, with 42 years of experience in the teaching field and more than 50 years in the knitting one ,she has survived resiliently the Lebanese civil war by working laboriously on her passions to become the amazing extremely wise woman she is today. For her , knitting is a sacred activity that brings her relief, and her work that is exceedingly demanded by her surroundings , is for her "des oeuvres-d'art" that should be taken care of. In a nutshell, Oumayma is the woman who made fabrics out of stitches and art out of nothing.
God's benediction, Emily
There's always that one person who wakes up at 4 o'clock in the morning, works all day long without complaining and sleeps late at night dreaming of what the next day reserves. That wonderful human being is one of the most amazing and dedicated workers I have ever seen in my life, Emily. A friend of Nature since her early childhood , she has always put her tears and blood in transforming the world's infinite resources into consumable, mouth-watering products that she would then give to her kids and family .She's that strong woman who would always tell you " Tfadal, khod chou ma baddak" in english meaning "Welcome, take whatever you want " even though you're a stranger to her. With more than 50 years of experience, Emily is able to bring you the best of Lebanon's nature preserving its fascinating traditions.
The concept of this online shop is not like others
Oumayma and Emily are two Lebanese women amongst thousands of others who dedicate their life in creating authentic products from scratch. They work tremendously day and night but don't get the right exposure they deserve . Their labour, witness of their long experience that reach half a century, is appreciated by whoever knows about it. As member of the upcoming generation, I can confirm that we CAN'T do the work they're doing, no , in fact , we are raised to enter a fast -moving industrial world.Nonetheless, what we CAN do is to create platforms like these that value everything they have done and preserve at the same time the Lebanese pure handmade artwork that we're lacking of progressively. Last but not least, by buying our products don't forget that you're encouraging the production of manufactured goods of Lebanon as well as the rise of the local economy. Our endeavour is not only to show gratitude towards both Oumayma and Emily , but it's to let them inspire the greatest amount of artisans like them, men and women, to showcase their treasures , their "knooz", so if you're interested in this concept don't hesitate to contact us so we can collaborate together.
"Let the flame be transmitted from generation to generation, for it's a shame to lose traditions that have been part of the Lebanese heritage for more than 1000 years.”
